For Healing Places and Thoughtful Spaces

Providing back lit replicated Images of Vara Kamin’s Original works of art, Vara Kamin’s Impressions of Light, Inc (VKI), has been serving hospitals, healing centers and the healthcare architectural and design community since 2000. Recognized as a pioneer in the field of art and healing and given the designation of an Arts and Health Distinguished Fellow in 2012, for her outstanding leadership in the field, Kamin’s work focusses on supporting an individual’s capacity to engage the body’s innate healing capacity by stimulating active imagination, inviting stillness and encouraging self-reflection.

“Crossing the bridge from decorative art to healing art, Vara Kamin’s Images are powerful, therapeutic tools that move the human body into a healing state of equilibrium, harmony and balance.”

“Kamin’s paintings generate curiosity and discovery; there also is harmony that soothes and relaxes. These characteristics separate Kamin’s work from the chaotic abstract art that Ulrich and Gilpin (2003) classify as generating negative responses in patients. There are additional research studies (Goldstein, 1980) that assist in explaining the ability of Kamin’s work to promote positive responses: exposure to aesthetically pleasing stimuli can result in the release of endorphins, which help the body relax and enhance mood.”
